Road Safety Summit: Many Players 1 Conversation

The Road Safety Summit convened a diverse group of decision-makers and community members to address critical road safety challenges. Day 1 began at Brixton Church with registration and a heartfelt performance of the National Anthem by the Brixton Choir. Attendees reflected on personal road crash experiences during the "Sidewalk/Street of Remembrance," fostering a shared understanding of the human impact of road safety issues. Through alleyway tours and interactive activities like hopscotch and art creation, participants examined achievements since the 2023 summit and identified key challenges to implementing the National Road Safety Strategy.

Day 2 commenced with a reflective check-in on the previous day’s insights. A three-hour session focused on collaborative solution-building, with groups led by Lemo Monyatsi and Mr. Andley Wu exploring roles in creating slower, safer streets and adopting participatory road safety approaches. After lunch, attendees tabled their commitments, outlining clear action plans with defined responsibilities and timelines. The summit concluded with a forward-looking session, solidifying a roadmap for monitoring progress and ensuring accountability for the initiatives discussed.

The two-day event emphasized community-driven strategies, actionable solutions, and institutionalizing monitoring mechanisms to achieve safer roads for all.
