The Africa Coal Network Workshop
The Africa Coal Network Workshop (14-16 May 2024) aims to strategize on engaging China in Africa’s energy transition. Over three days, participants will reflect on research, share experiences, and discuss key themes in Africa-China relations. The first day focuses on understanding the context, with activities such as group puzzle-building and strategy discussions, along with case studies on key African energy projects. The second day emphasizes applying research findings and real-world experiences to foster more equitable engagements with China, with group brainstorming sessions and strategy development.
On the final day, the workshop will consolidate strategic outputs and discuss the practical steps for moving forward. Participants will agree on areas of focus, assign responsibilities, and set timelines for implementing action plans. A session on the global phaseout of fossil fuels provides broader context, and the workshop will conclude with reflections and administrative matters. This collaborative event aims to strengthen Africa-China relations and ensure sustainable engagement in Africa’s energy future.
